The role of dean consists of three major areas of responsibility:

• Pastoral Care: Deans provide a pastoral presence in the conferences by encouraging and supporting rostered leaders.
• Communication: Deans facilitate communication in and through the conference by disseminating information, advocating mission support, and
meeting with the bishop.
• Administration: Deans coordinate conference gatherings and activities, chair conference caucuses and oversee conference nominations for Synod Council and Churchwide voting member elections.
